As a father of three wonderfully unpredictable children, I dreaded the trips to the portrait studio.Perhaps it was my futile attempts at entertaining my children in the crowded studio waiting room or the "run of the mill" poses we had to choose from.  More often it was the twenty minute window I had with the photographer that never seemed to gel with my energetic two year old or sleeping.There is another option, Lifestyle Portraiture.  I would like to invite you to experience a totally different portrait experience.

Lifestyle portraiture provides the opportunity to capture your child’s many faces in the safety and comfort of your own home or favorite park. We work with your child’s schedule, allow adequate time for the shoot, and have fun as your child’s curiosity and personality shape the session. Together we will capture the beauty and personality of your children, the sheepish grin and mischievous twinkle in their eye, that will warm your heart for years to come.

We offer a number of proofing/purchasing options including a password protected gallery to view and share the images with your friends.

FAQ

Q. How long does a session last?

A. A typical portrait session will last two hours.  Infant sessions may run closer to three hours depending on the baby's schedule including feedings and diaper changes.

Q What should I dress my kids in?

A. Comfortable loose fitting clothes.  A comfortable child is a happy child.  Solid colors work best but feel free to try something radical for one of the outfits. Bare feet often work well - little toes are too cute to keep penned up in shoes.

With newborns, less is best. For mom and dad, black contrasts beautifully with the newborn's skin. You may want to have a change of clothes ready if baby is dressed in what the good Lord gave them.  Infants and toddlers attention spans can vary so I suggest no more than one or two outfit changes.

Q How can I help during the shoot?

A.  Each session is going to be different.  A great way to approach our time together is like a play date.  If you typically are playful with the kids, feel free to occasionally join in the fun.  It is not uncommon for me to put parents to work holding reflectors or helping move things around.  I like to keep the session as natural as possible especially for toddlers and ask that only the people directly involved in the session be present. 

Q What happens after the session?

A.  Your proofs will be available one week after the shoot in a password protected online gallery. Feel free to share the gallery with family and friends.  The majority of our products are available for purchase directly through the gallery from the privacy and comfort of your own home.  We are also available for proof session...

What to Expect

Expect the unexpected....they are children after all, but most of all expect to have fun!

The strength and beauty of Lifestyle Portraiture is allowing the personality of your children to shape the time we have together. 

A typical shoot will run two hours. I like to start the session in a room the kids are most comfortable in.  Often times this is the kids play room or family room.  This gives the children, especially if this is the first time we have worked together, opportunity to get to know me and used to the camera.

As the kids get more comfortable with the camera, I will play a more active roll over the environment.  I rarely ask them to say "cheese", but I will give them some direction in order to maximize the light or to control the elements in the image.  I may also request your permission to move things around in order to better frame the images we are capturing.  As the kids allow, we may explore the house a bit for other picture opportunities and if the weather is nice I may suggest taking the kids outside.

We only book one morning and one afternoon session a day.  We encourage you to block off the morning or afternoon of that day as well.  At the start of the session I will touch base with you on the schedule for that day and will make the most of the time you have set aside.  Toddler sessions will typically last between one and two hours, infant sessions often run a bit longer to allow for feedings or changes.

Investment

A la Carte - $75

A la Carte is the simplest way to get started in Lifestyle portraiture.  The price includes the portrait session at a location of your choice.  Typical sessions last two hours and your proofs will be made available for you to browse on our password protected gallery.  Prints and other products can be ordered directly from the gallery.  A DVD, with personal reproduction rights, of all the proofs is available for purchase for $250.  Print and merchandise orders are treated as credit towards the DVD.  Orders over $250 will receive the DVD as a part of the order.

Baby's 1st - $500

Your child goes through a wonderful transformation before your eyes during the first year of their life.  For many parents the year is over before they realize where it went.  Our Baby's 1st package is designed to capture this first year in a three sessions with the option to add a maternity session.  The package includes a newborn, 6 month, and one year portrait session.  10-15 images from each session will be complied into a 30 side 7x7 hard cover "coffee table" album for you to enjoy.  Additional pages,albums and sizes are available as "upgrades".

We are based in Rockland County NY, 20 miles NW of New York City, and with easy access to Bergen, and Westchester Counties  Sessions across the river or requiring travel outside a 20 mile radius of Pearl River may incur additional charges.
